- That international Standard specifies the general requirements for competence in calibrations executing, including sampling. It covers testing and calibration performed with the use of standard methods, non-standard methods and methods developed by the laboratories.
- That international Standard is applicable to all the organizations, performing tests and / or calibrations. Laboratories where the testing and / or calibration is part of inspection and product certification.
- That International Standard is applicable to all laboratories, regardless of the number of personnel or the scope of their activities in testing and / or calibration. When a laboratory does not perform one or more of the activities covered by this International Standard such as sampling and the development / improvement of new methods, the requirements of the relevant paragraphs are not applied.
- That International Standard is intended to be used by laboratories which create their own system for control of the quality, the administrative and technical activities. It can also be used by clients of laboratories by the authorized authorities and accreditation bodies that confirm or recognize the laboratorys competence. That standard is not intended for application in certification of laboratories.
- That International Standard does not consider the compliance with the requirements of the regulations and with requirements for safety at work of the laboratories.
